Le Concert au Chat

Etching, 87 x 80 mm., Robert-Dumesnil 12, LeBlanc 9. Dassonville was a French or Flemish etcher in the Ostade mold, that is to say, doing genre scenes of taverns, peasants and general low life. The instruments here are a rebec (medieval predecessor of the viol and violin and probably anachronistic at this time), bagpipes, recorder(?) and a cat with its tail being pulled (lower right). PDQ Bach would have understood perfectly. Very good, slightly uneven impression on laid paper, trimmed just on the platemark.
