Dernière Réflexion Portrait of Meyer-Heine (Last Thought Portrait of Meyer-Heine)
Etching and drypoint, 1872, 216 x 243 mm., Béraldi 80 ii/iii, B. N. Inv. 322.
Fine impression before the title and before publication by the Societé des Aquafortistes on thin, laid china paper with large margins; a few negligible spots of foxing in the margins and the tips of the lower margin corners lacking. Jacob Meyer-Heine (1805-1879) was the chief enameller of the Sevres porcelain works, for which Bracquemond made many designs. Both the title and the beautiful autumn landscape seen through the open window at the right movingly underline the fact that he retired from his position the year of the print.
