Le Bassin des Tuileries
Color woodcut, 1898, 219 x 337 mm., Lotz-Brissonneau 265 ii/ii. A brilliant impression on wove paper with full margins, pencil signed and numbered 11, printed in black, two tones of grey, lilac, two tones of rust and salmon pink and published by l'Estampe Nouvelle in an edition of 50. Lepère's color woodcuts were among the earliest and best of the woodcut revival in nineteenth-century France. This, one of his later ones, is also one of the most beautiful. All of them, today, are scarce and desirable.
