Lithograph, 1920, Kruger L-365, 243 x 172 mm. Fine impression on wove paper, as published in the Jahrbuch der Jungen Kunst, with full margins. Pechstein was an important and prolific Expressionist painter and printmaker and a member of the art group Die Brücke from 1906. Highly successful and then vilified by the Nazis, he had hundreds of his paintings removed from German museums and lived through the war in seclusion. He was reinstated as professor at the Berlin Academy in 1945.
